Celeb Look of The Week: Dakota Johnson

The 2018 Golden Globes red carpet was brimming with Hollywood stars wearing black in order to support the Time’s Up movement toward gender equality, and Dakota Johnson was no different. The actress stepped out for the awards night in a beautiful Gucci dress with a flowing train, but unlike some of the other dresses on the red carpet, hers had a special surprise in the back. The back of Johnson’s dress had a gigantic silver star embellishment on it with delicate silver beaded lines that fell toward the bottom of her skirt. The surprising detail was fully concealed from the front of her dress so it could only be seen once she turned around. The front of the dress was simple, with a silver buckle at her waist and thin black straps. Johnson accessorized the gown with Nirav Modi dangling earrings and two simple silver Nirav Modi bangles. What a chic way to make a surprise style statement.❤

Oprah Winfrey

Why Oprah Winfrey stole the show at the 2018 Golden Globes.

Oprah Winfrey brought the crowd at the Golden Globes to their feet after delivering a rousing acceptance speech that touched on the sexual misconduct reckoning in Hollywood, her impressive career, and her recognition of Recy Taylor, a black woman who was raped in Alabama in 1944 by six white men, but did not receive justice. The star was being honored with the Cecil B. DeMille award, which was presented to her by Reese Witherspoon, her co-star in the upcoming Disney film A Wrinkle in Time. Winfrey began her speech by remembering the time she saw Sidney Poitier win an Oscar in 1964. “Up to the stage came the most elegant man I had ever seen,” she said. “I had never seen a black man being celebrated like that . . . I tried many, many times to explain what a moment like that means to a little girl, a kid watching from the cheap seats, as my mom came through the door bone-tired from cleaning other people’s houses.” She then brought the moment full circle. …

How These Babies Made Their Mark In Pop Culture History

Whether or not you watched Sex and The City: The Movie, you’ve probably seen the now famous blue Manolo Blahnik satin pumps Carrie wears to marry her long-time love, Big. The proper title for the shoe is the Hangisi, but over the past few years, it has been appropriately dubbed the “Something Blue” pump, for its role as the shoe of choice to accompany Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding gown and embedding itself in pop culture history. While the Sex and the City movie introduced the Hangisi/ Something Blue pump to the masses, the phenomena wouldn’t be nearly as far-reaching as it’s become if this wasn’t a very special shoe. Pop Culture Magic The shoes were not just another fabulous item from Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe, they played a significant role in the movie. So significant they could have been listed in the closing credits. Originally, Carrie buys them to wear with a simple, secondhand ivory suit she picks up at a vintage shop. The suit is not a designer label or even a name brand, and is …

Oscars 2017: Why Stars Wore Blue Ribbons On The Red Carpet

I am so proud of how Queen Regnant has evolved. As much as the red carpet is so glamorous, the world is plagued with serious issues that require a platform, such as the Academy Awards red carpet, to be highlighted. This year, the accessory of the night at the Oscars was not a shiny designer clutch or a strappy stiletto. It’s a blue American Civil Liberties Union ribbon. Ruth Negga, nominated for the best actress Oscar for her portrayal of Mildred Loving in “Loving,” wore the ribbon with a red floor-sweeping Valentino dress. “Loving” is based on the true story of a couple who were banished from Virginia for their interracial marriage. The A.C.L.U. took up the case and brought it all the way to the United States Supreme Court, which struck down miscegenation laws — those that enforced segregation in intimate relationships — in 1967. Lin-Manuel Miranda, nominated for best original song, wore a ribbon, too (as did his mother, Luz Towns-Miranda). He paired his with a slightly more low-key option than Ms. Negga’s: …

Oscars 2016-Who Wore What

Who wore what at this years Oscars. Alicia Vikander certainly did not disappoint in that sunshine yellow of a Louis Vuitton frock and Lady Gaga kept the wow factor with a Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit, train included. Olivia Munn injected a fresh pop of colour on the red carpet with an orange Stella McCartney gown and we can’t help but compare Sam Smith to a young George Michael in that Dunhill tuxedo.
